Daonese Johnson-Colón: With her incredible career and dedication to training and guiding the next generation of social justice leaders, Daonese Johnson-Colón is igniting change in the nation as well as in the community of New York City. Daonese has devoted her professional life to creating environments that support diversity, inclusion, and leadership in order to advance both individual and professional growth in the fields of criminal justice and education reform. She has twelve years of leadership experience in workforce management and nonprofit administration. Since the program’s launch in 2019, Daonese has been the faculty adviser for the New York Giants’ yearly cohort of five fellows in the Giants’ Touchdown Fellowship program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

At PushBlack, the biggest nonprofit media company for Black Americans in the US that reaches 9 million people across several platforms, Daonese Johnson-Colón serves as Chief Operating Officer. PushBlack shares uplifting tales about Black history and daily life to encourage people to make liberated decisions that benefit Black communities. Her goal is to produce captivating television about the richness of Black history and culture that motivates viewers to take action that advances the political, social, and cultural well-being of Black communities.

Daonese held the position of Vice President of Operations/COO at JustLeadershipUSA (JLUSA) before joining PushBlack. JLUSA’s objective is to increase the capacity of people who have suffered negative effects from the criminal justice system to self-organize and to provide their communities with the resources they require to overthrow oppressive and racist systems and build a more just society.

Additionally, Daonese teaches adjunct courses for the Accelerate Complete Engage (ACE) program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. This cohort program offers participating students a comprehensive set of academic, financial, and social interventions to significantly increase the percentage of students who graduate with a bachelor’s degree. She also participates in the Justice Capital Initiative Fellowship, which helps students investigate professions that align with their interests and majors. Daonese was honored with the NAACP Minority Achievement Recognition Award for all of her amazing work.
