Indeed. As a kid in the early 90s, I remember watching Saved by the Bell and it felt like they were grownups. Looking back it’s SHOCKING how young they were at the start. That said, with the TMNT I think it’s more that almost every iteration has depicted them acting much older than teens actually behave, and of course voiced by adults. I had to do a career day at middle school recently (my wife is a teacher) and after spending some time with 13/14 year old students I have to say, the energy in the trailer where Mikey/Donnie/Raph excitedly gather around the phone to watch their ninja skills (after risking Mikey’s life by throwing ninja stars at him), is more accurate to a rambunctious group of teenage boys than anything the series has done maybe ever.
