Between 1939-1945, Germany built more than 15,000 Ju-88s for war service. The Junkers Ju-88 was one of the most versatile aircraft of World War II.|Although originally designed to serve as a medium bomber, in reality the Ju-88 operated as a short-range attack aircraft. Sometimes they also take on many roles for each mission such as attack aircraft – bombers, reconnaissance aircraft or night fighters. With stable effectiveness and relatively low production costs, the Germans made full use of the Ju-88 on all fronts, especially on the Eastern Front from 1941-1945 and the Mediterranean region.|Designed with a vertical drop feature, the Ju-88’s original function was not suitable for a strategic bombing role. On the contrary, the effectiveness of the Ju-88 exceeded all expectations in any mission, as well as beyond the standards of a conventional bomber.|In addition, although the Ju-88 is not fully armed to defend itself in an emergency situation, in return it carries enough explosives to devastate industrial parks and infrastructure. The Ju-88s of Operation Barbarossa tore apart the tank formation and destroyed most of the Soviet paratroopers.
